Matt’s return could be a month away

MANAGER Steve Burr reckons it could be another month before striker Jamille Matt can return to the Kidderminster Harriers starting line-up.

The Jamaican-born striker, who scored 14 goals last season, has not played for the Aggborough club since March when it came to light he did not have British citizenship.

Matt has trained with Harriers in recent weeks but cannot feature in matches until the UK Border Agency have processed his application.

With the Blue Square Bet Premier opener just round the corner — Harriers visit Lincoln City a week tomorrow — Burr knows it is unlikely the 21-year-old will be involved.

He said: “We are still waiting for Jamille and the sooner that happens the better because we will improve as a squad. “He’s training with us but it’s just getting him cleared to start playing again.

“It’s a long drawn-out process but I can’t see him being available for the first month of the season. It might happen but we will have to wait and see.”

Harriers conclude their warm-up programme by hosting Stourbridge in the Worcestershire FA Senior Cup final tomorrow (3pm), a match held over from the end of last season.

Striker Anthony Malbon is out with a chest infection, which forced him off early in Tuesday’s 3-2 home defeat to Walsall, while winger Marvin Johnson has a calf problem.
