ED Dursley put in a massive effort for Worcester St John’s at the Rudy Project Time Trial Series, passing out after the finish line.

The Road Time Trials Council hosted and St John’s ran the fifth round from Great Witley which included the Para-cycling Time Trial Championships.

Although the race started an hour-and-a-half late due to roadworks on the course in Broadheath, the conditions were good apart from a headwind on the way back.

The men’s event started with 40 top riders doing two laps of the 16-mile course and Joseph Perrett, of PCA Ciclos Uno, won in one hour 10 minutes 31 seconds.

He was followed by Jeff Jones, of Drag2zero-north, in 1.13.29, Wouter Sybrandy, of Team IG Sigma Sport, and Mat Botrill, of drag2zero.com.

Jeremy Pile, of Malvern club Velo Sevale, came 15th in 1.21.12 and the fastest St John’s rider was 17th-placed Mark Corbett in 1.21.51.

Dursley rode so hard that he passed out just after the finish line, coming 19th in 1.28.54. In the junior event, Tom Ward from Pershore-based Echelon-Rotor won in 40.26.

In the veterans, Andrew Perkins, from Mid Devon CC, triumphed with 37.35, while a strong St John’s contingent was headed by eighth-placed Rob Nicholls in 39.23.

In the national disabled championship time trial, David Stone, of Yorkshire Road Club, won against a quality field.

l St John’s riders competed in Cricklade, near Cirencester, with Walker clocking 23.20 and Martin Lines 24 minutes.

Rob Nicholls and Slough both missed the turn and went off-course as no signs were allowed on the dual-track.

The St John’s Olympic legacy time trial at Broadheath was threatened by the roadworks but the race went ahead on a shortened 8.85-mile course.
