Finishing touches to City preparations
WORCESTER City visit Leamington tomorrow (3pm) as they put the finishing touches to their preparations for the new season.
Having been back in training since the beginning of July, there is now just over a week before the St George’s Lane club kick-off their Blue Square Bet Premier campaign at Bradford Park Avenue.
Carl Heeley’s squad appear in good shape and have lost just one of their seven warm-up fixtures to date, last Friday’s 3-2 reverse against Shrewsbury Town.
But, despite seeing their unbeaten run come to an end, City acquitted themselves admirably against a side preparing to set out in League One.
Tomorrow’s clash against the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division promotion hopefuls represents the final chance to put plans in place for the season ahead and manager Heeley reckons everything is on track.
He said: “Pre-season is primarily a fitness exercise and integrating the new players in the squad but we are mindful that it’s preparation for when points are at stake at Bradford.
“Tomorrow will be a good test for us as Leamington are striving to get out of their league. We will treat it as a competitive game because our season starts in a week. We are pleased with how it’s gone so far.”
Centre-half Jacob Rowe is due to see a specialist about his knee and might not be involved, while left winger Danny Edwards is unavailable because he is at a wedding.
Keeper Matt Sargeant has returned to training but is still not 100 per cent fit following a thigh strain.
