New-look Robins to target play-offs

EVESHAM United manager Matt Clarke hopes to guide his team back to the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division at the first attempt.

The Robins endured relegation to Division One South and West last term but pre-season results have been encouraging with draws against Shrewsbury, Cheltenham and Hereford.

Evesham get their campaign under way against visitors Sholing with the first league match at the new Spiers and Hartwell Jubilee Stadium tomorrow (3pm).

Clarke said: “I don’t like setting targets but, as a club, we want to be up there and challenging for the play-offs.

“Training is going very well. We’ve put in some superb pre-season performances and will be looking to take that forward into the new campaign.

“We’ve brought in seven or eight new players and have a great dressing room. It didn’t have the right atmosphere before but we’ve got some new characters and now it is my team, which it wasn’t before.”

Southampton-based Sholing finished fourth in the league last term.

Clarke added: “We know we’ll be up against a tough team but hopefully being at home will give us an advantage. The new facilities are outstanding and we hope to get a good crowd.”

Evesham’s summer signings include keeper Dean Coleman and former Worcester City forward Luke Corbett, plus the return of attackers Roland Agbor and Marcus Palmer.
