I can learn from the best, says Andress

PROP John Andress is relishing learning from former England internationals Phil Vickery and Nigel Redman as he bids to establish himself as an Aviva Premiership force.

Andress, 28, will make his first start for Worcester Warriors today since arriving from Exeter Chiefs when Richard Hill’s men take on the Scarlets at Sixways (3pm).

It will be the Irishman’s first chance to impress and he believes working with forwards coaches Vickery and Redman will bring the best out of him going into the 2012-13 campaign.

“Working with Nigel and Phil has been great. Both are very honest and straight-talking, they both know the game, what they want and the areas they are involved with so that is great for the forwards,” Andress said.

“I have liked what I have seen from both of them and I’m sure they will have a big impact on us this season.

“Phil has had an illustrious career and for a good reason – he was an outstanding prop. If you are going to learn from anyone you might as well learn from the best.”

Andress added: “It’s a big move for me and really important I take this chance. I need to establish a reputation in the Premiership and kick on from there. It’s crucial that I make this work.

“I just want to be involved against Bath. A good friend of mine, Ryan Caldwell, plays for them so it would be nice to face him on day one.

“I’m really enjoying being at the club. Pre-season has been tough, but it’s great to be here in such a strong squad and we are now looking to make a big start.

“We’ve all been keen to get started and into games. We have to take everything we have worked on in pre-season into these games and work on it from there.”
