WORCESTER City take on Colwyn Bay at St George’s Lane tomorrow (3pm) aiming to extend their unbeaten start to the season to five games.

It has been an excellent August for Carl Heeley’s team with eight points coming from their first four Blue Square Bet North fixtures.

Back-to-back home victories over Bishop’s Stortford and Corby Town have been supplemented by 2-2 draws at Bradford Park Avenue and Oxford City.

The run has put City among the early pace-setters and they are in no mood to take their foot off the gas against the north Wales side tomorrow.

“We have started well and are quite confident. If the players do what they are capable of, Worcester is going to be a tough place to come for anybody,” manager Heeley said.

“We want to keep the run going as long as possible and when it ends, which it will at some point, it’s important to get on another one quickly. That establishes you in the top reaches of the division.

“We are unbeaten and have a plus-six goal difference so we are chuffed.”

Having scored five goals in a league game at the Lane for the first time in nearly seven years against Corby last Saturday, including two for Danny Glover, City are rightly riding the crest of a wave.

But Heeley has warned of over-confidence against a Colwyn Bay outfit who have already defeated promotion hopefuls Halifax this term.

“Colwyn Bay are a good side,” the Worcester boss said. “They beat us last season at St George’s Lane and have had a tough start this time. They beat Solihull Moors and Halifax and narrowly lost to Chester and Stalybridge. It will be another tough game and we will be on our guard. But if we are right, we have got an opportunity to win.”

Rob Elvins could return to the team after being forced off the pitch at Oxford on Bank Holiday Monday with a hip injury.

The defensive midfielder was replaced by Jay Denny but his injury has improved in recent days and is poised to allow Heeley to name an unchanged team.

Midfielder Matt Breeze starts a three-match ban after being sent off as a substitute in the opening game at Bradford.

“We are four games unbeaten so there’s no major changes required but we will see how people train, if they are feeling tired or if other players give us a better chance of winning,” Heeley added.
