New boy Denny keen to make up for lost time
JAY Denny is relishing the opportunity to make his mark for Worcester City this season.
The 26-year-old wasted little time in earning a deal at St George’s Lane in July after impressing from the start of the pre-season programme.
But a red card on the final day of last season for former club Hednesford Town meant the defensive midfielder had to watch the first three games of this campaign from the sidelines.
Denny made his Blue Sq-uare Bet North debut replacing the injured Rob Elvins for the last 20 minutes of Monday’s 2-2 draw at Oxford City and is in contention for today’s home match against Colwyn Bay (3pm).
He said: “I have had to bide my time but had a decent pre-season and got a lot of minutes. I just had to be patient and wait my turn because we’ve got a very good squad. It’s been frustrating not being involved so I was very happy to make my debut and finally get some minutes.”
Denny now hopes he can help Worcester continue their good start to the season and push for honours over the coming months.
The American-born player added: “You’ve got to fancy us for a play-off spot but it’s early days. We’ve only played four games so we’ll see where we are after about 10 or 15 matches.
“We look like scoring every time we go forward and Rob and I can sit there in midfield, be a little bit more disciplined and keep our shape. I am looking forward to a good season.
“I know a few of the lads and work with Danny Edwards. It’s a really good squad.”
