WORCESTER City manager Carl Heeley says his team are full of confidence as they aim to make it six games unbeaten in Blue Square Bet North at Histon tonight (7.45).

Saturday’s 2-0 victory against Colwyn Bay at St George’s Lane, which came courtesy of goals from Tom Thorley and Danny Glover, made it 11 points from 15 this season.

With only Guiseley, Brackley and Chester above them in the table — all with 100 per cent records — City are not short on self-belief.

Heeley said: “Everybody associated with the club would have taken five games unbeaten.

“We can be critical of some of the games but they’ve gone now, we’re winning games and the confidence is quite high.

“We’ve got to apply ourselves correctly, play to the best of our ability and I can’t ask for any more than that and I am sure the results will come.

“We can score goals but we defended quite well on Saturday and restricted Colwyn Bay to very few chances, particularly in the second half.”

Histon were thrashed 5-0 at Altrincham at the weekend and also shipped five against City when the sides met at Bridge Road last August, Mike Symons scoring a hat-trick and Rob Elvins a brace.

Heeley, however, does not expect that to have a bearing on tonight’s clash and is just keen for his players to focus on the task ahead.

“I can’t speak for Histon but I know when results haven’t gone our way in the past I expect a reaction and I don’t suppose they will be any different,” the City boss said.

“We’ve got to focus on ourselves, play better if we can but the key thing is to take our chances and not concede. As long as we do that we’ll be fine.

“Histon provides us with another opportunity to get points on the board.”

Left-winger Greg Mills is available for the Cambridgeshire trip as his one-match ban for two yellow cards at the weekend does not come into force until the visit of Droylsden on Saturday, September 15.

Jacob Rowe is set to keep his place alongside Stuart Whitehead at centre-half as Shabir Khan missed the Colwyn Bay victory with a groin strain suffered in training and he remains doubtful.

Heeley added: “Shab’s been out for a long time and fatigue has probably played a part.”
