Holders Droitwich get home draw in the Shield

DROITWICH, the North Midlands Shield holders, have been drawn at home to Yardley & District in the second round of this season’s rugby competition which will be played on September 22.

Droitwich are seeking a third consecutive win in the Shield, having beaten Veseyans in last season’s final at Dudley Kingswinford.

Edwardians, who won the North Midlands Vase last season, are competing in the Shield having also secured league promotion, and have been drawn away to Kidderminster Carolians in the Shield second round.

Newport, beaten finalists in last season’s North Midlands Cup, will begin this season’s campaign with a home quarter-final against Old Halesonians on December 1.

The winners of the first round tie between Worcester Wanderers and Camp Hill will be at home to Ludlow with Hereford hosting Bournville and Whitchurch entertaining Malvern.

In the North Midlands Vase, Ross-on-Wye, winners in 2008 and 2009, will host Tenbury Wells in the second round which will also be played on September 22.

North Midlands Cup quarter-finals: Hereford v Bournville, Whitchurch v Malvern, Newport v Old Halesonians, Worcester Wanderers or Camp Hill v Ludlow. Ties to be played on December 1.

North Midlands Shield second round: Moseley Oak v Upton on Severn, Redditch v Lordswood Dixonians, Droitwich v Yardley & District, Pershore v Shrewsbury, Kidderminster Carolians v Edwardians, Woodrush v Aston OE, Bridgnorth v Veseyans, Evesham v Old Saltleians. Ties to be played on September 22.

North Midlands Vase second round: Ross on Wye v Tenbury, Birmingham Exiles v Old Yardleians, Harborne v Aldridge, Clee Hill v Bishop’s Castle, Market Drayton v Bromyard, Birmingham Civil Service v Five Ways OE, Greyhound v Warley, Cahddesley Corbett v Telford Hornets. Ties to be played on September 22.
