Wolves swoop for talented Thomson

WORCESTER Wolves have followed up the signing of Arturas Masiulis by securing the services of forward Stuart Thomson.

The 24-year-old, from Cheshire, joins just 24 hours after Wolves confirmed the Lithuanian’s arrival and is the fourth new addition to the squad ahead of next weekend’s British Basketball League season tip-off.

Thomson is the younger brother of former Newcastle Eagles centre Andrew Thomson and studied the sport at Catawba College in North Carolina, averaging six points and two rebounds per game in his final year.

Director of basketball Paul James said: “Stuart has had an interesting upbringing to his game. He represented his country at junior level, before taking the same path as his brother Andrew in going over to college in the States. “He has put together some useful numbers which I will now be looking for him to carry into his game at Wolves.”

Thomson, who stands at 6ft 6ins, added: “I’m very happy to be joining Wolves. It’s a team that has already started its climb to the top and I’m glad I can be a part of the success. I’m looking forward to an exciting and competitive season.”

Wolves start their BBL campaign against Durham Wildcats at the University of Worcester on Saturday, September 22.
