WORCESTER City manager Carl Heeley is hoping his side’s 100 per cent record at St George's Lane will make others sit up and take note.

Last Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Droylsden, which came courtesy of goals from Michael Taylor and Tom Thorley, was City’s fourth in succession at home in Blue Square Bet North.

It has kept them fifth in the table, ahead of this weekend’s break for the FA Cup, and sends out a signal that City mean business.

Heeley said: “I thought we did well at home last season but four out of four is first class and the longer that goes on the more teams look at it and think the Lane is going to be a tough place to come.

“I think people know it’s a tough place to come anyway.

“You’ve got to win your home games. We like to think we’re entertaining to watch, we try to play the game correctly but the right way is winning games and we've won again.”

Harrogate Town are next to visit in the league on Saturday, September 29, and Heeley added: “I suppose there are things we can work on in training that we can improve but you can’t ask for anymore than four wins out of four. It can't get any better.

“It was important to bounce back after last weekend’s setback, which is all it was, and we’re back on another run now.

“Every team will have a little blip in the season but we’ve got to be one of those sides that keep chipping away and see where it takes us. That’s all we can do.”

Heeley was delighted to beat Droylsden, a team City lost twice to last term, and pleased to see Thorley net his third goal of the campaign. The midfielder, who scored fine free-kicks against Oxford City and Colwyn Bay, despatched a penalty to restore Worcester’s advantage at 2-1.

With striker Danny Glover having already been substituted, Thorley was the obvious candidate and made no mistake from 12 yards.

Heeley said: “Tom’s in a rich vein of form and he’s got a few goals — all from set-pieces — but he’s become a reliable penalty taker.”

Defender Shabir Khan is nearing a return to fitness following a groin strain after training with the team ahead of the game against Droylsden.
