Kidderminster Harriers keepers in battle for jersey

KEEPER Danny Lewis has been told he faces a challenge to become first choice between the sticks at Kidderminster Harriers.

The 30-year-old began the season as number one at Aggborough but was replaced by Nathan Vaughan after suffering a groin strain last month.

Despite returning to fitness, Lewis, who missed most of last season with a knee injury, has had to settle for a place on the bench behind Vaughan in the last two matches against Grimsby and Southport.

The ex-Evesham United keeper, who signed a one-year deal at Harriers in the summer, has proved his worth in his five games to date with bottom-of-the-table Harriers drawing the last four.

Manager Steve Burr, whose side visit Alfreton today (3pm) seeking their first win of the season, said: “I have been very pleased with how Nathan’s performed. It’s up to Danny to work hard to get his shirt back.”

Meanwhile, Harriers’ match at Stockport County on Saturday, October 13, will kick off at 3.30pm as part of Non-League Day.

With the Premiership and Championship not in action because of an international break, fans of larger clubs are being urged to support lower league football.

Kidderminster’s fixture is the second of three matches with staggered starts – the others at Macclesfield and Hyde start at 12.30pm and 6.30pm respectively.
