Watkins ready for Harriers debut
ADAM Watkins is set to make his debut against visitors Macclesfield Town tomorrow (3pm) as Kidderminster Harriers seek to build on their first win of the season.
The 21-year-old attacking midfielder has been drafted in on a month’s loan from Blue Square Bet Premier rivals Luton Town in a bid to strengthen Harriers’ midfield.
Watkins, also an England ‘C’ international, will increase manager Steve Burr’s options, with Kyle Storer (knee) and Jack Byrne (Achilles) being long-term absentees.
Burr said: “With Jack and Kyle out, we have been looking at a couple of options for the middle of the park.
“We’ve managed to get Adam in and he’s someone I’ve worked with before in the England ‘C’ team so I know what he’s about.
“He’s a good footballer with bags of energy and he has played a lot of games at this level for a lad of such a young age.”
Kidderminster climbed off the bottom of the table with Tuesday’s 3-1 success at 10-man Cambridge United, which ended a 10-match winless sequence this season.
Despite going behind, Harriers hit back with a second-half hat-trick from substitute Ryan Rowe and he will be pushing for a starting spot against the Silkmen.
Burr added: “This gets the monkey off our backs and now I want the team to kick on, starting with Macclesfield.
“In recent games I felt this had been coming, the performances had been improving and certainly against Alfreton (1-1 draw last Saturday) we had enough opportunities to win.
“There has been no doom and gloom from the lads and the backroom staff because we have created so many chances. But we still have a lot of hard work to do – we’ve got to get out of the bottom four and move up the table.”
