Breeze wants to build on City's momentum
MATT Breeze wants Worcester City to glean even more confidence from their 1-0 victory at Solihull Moors.
Tom Thorley’s 45th minute goal secured the three points at Damson Park on Tuesday night and kept City sixth in the Blue Square Bet North table after 10 games.
Breeze, who was starting his first league game of the season following several substitute appearances, felt his team were worthy of the victory but believes they need to have more faith in their ability.
He said: “It was scrappy but we got the win so we have to push on now and turn the draws that we’ve been getting into wins.
“When we did pass the ball we opened them up and were the better team although it was scrappy in the last 10 minutes with us holding on to the 1-0. I thought we could have gone for a few more goals but I’m happy with the win.
“At Histon last year I experienced not doing well with leads and what I’ve learned from it is you’ve got to be positive. You’ve got to be smiling because you’re winning and you’ve got to want to pass the ball.
“We have got players who can play at a higher level and everyone knows that and I just think we need to be more confident on the ball when we’re winning and holding on to leads.”
Meanwhile, manager Carl Heeley has challenged Tom Thorley to take his goal tally into double figures for the season.
The midfielder is already up to four for the season, half of what he managed in the whole of the last campaign.
“I have a joke with Tom that he should score more goals. There’s no reason why he can’t get into double figures,” the Worcester boss said.
“I thought he was outstanding on Tuesday. He was a little bit off it last Saturday but what a response. I thought he was the dominant player in midfield.”
n There are still seats on the supporters’ club coach for Saturday’s FA Cup trip to Weston. It leaves St George’s Lane at 10.30am, at £10 per person. Contact Keith Chambers on 07712-457698 to book.
