Whitehead looks to add to his FA Cup memories

CAPTAIN Stuart Whitehead is hoping to write another chapter in his illustrious FA Cup career with Worcester City this season.

Whitehead has enjoyed some memorable matches in the competition and wants to lead his current side closer to the promised land of the first round proper with victory at Weston-super-Mare in the third qualifying round tomorrow (3pm).

The centre-half, 36, took on Premier League giants Arsenal in the third round while with Carlisle United in 2001 and was part of the Telford team that reached the fourth round in 2004, losing to eventual finalists Millwall.

He said: “The FA Cup is always something to look forward to and the further you progress you can have some fantastic days.

“I have played in some games in the latter stages but you have to get through the first matches so you can have the big games to look back on.

“We are really looking forward to it, it’s a nice break from the league and hopefully we can continue to get the results and carry on our unbeaten run.”

The winners will collect a cheque for £7,500 and book a place in Monday’s fourth qualifying round draw.

“I think everybody knows what is at stake,” Whitehead added.

“Every player is aware that clubs in our league and some above are under financial constraints and it’s important to bring that revenue into the club.

“I am sure Weston will be thinking the same because it’s a good money generator.”
