Hill: The game was a shocker

FUMING Richard Hill decided to keep his opinions to himself in the immediate aftermath of Worcester’s terrible 10-6 defeat to Wasps.

However, he insisted there will be a thorough debrief back at Sixways tomorrow when the players and coaches will go through the Adams Park horror show in minute detail.

It was an atrocious game with both sides combining to serve up an error-strewn clash bereft of quality and Hill was at a loss to explain where such a poor performance came from.

“I didn’t say a great deal to the players at the end, otherwise I might have blown my top,” Hill lamented. “I’ll just wait until tomorrow when we come back together to debrief the game. It was a shocker, I don’t think either of the teams played well and we were marginally worse.

“You have to give Wasps credit for holding out at the end when we could have sneaked it, but I’m not saying we deserved to win it.

“Both teams tried hard, but there were so many individual errors — particularly with our line-out, which did not function at all when we had good attacking positions.

“It was a poor, error-strewn game from both sides, apart from the opening minutes when Wasps scored their try — after that, it was a pretty dour affair.

“Players made uncharacteristic errors, I don’t know why, and our line-out didn’t function.

“Both teams got into their opponents’ 22 — it wasn’t a game played in the middle third — but there were just so many errors.

“We just couldn’t hold onto the ball and the only time we did manage to do that was right at the end and Wasps defended superbly well to keep us out.”

Hill added: “Wasps must admit they are not playing the best rugby they can play at this moment in time and they dug in to win yesterday.

“It was an opportunity we really let slip and we are disappointed, but we came away with a bonus point so it’s not all doom and gloom.

“There were penalties at the scrum, cock-ups at the line-out and people dropping ball as well as lots of poor kicks.”
