Martin hits the right Lines in Gloucester

WORCESTER St John’s Cycling Club competed in the final open event of the season for many.

Forty-three riders took on a Gloucester City 25-mile time trial on a cold, sunny morning with four Saints and two members from Malvern’s Velo Club Sevale involved.

There was some wind about and a few hills on the undulating course from Maisemore to Ledbury and back.

Only about half-a-dozen riders managed to beat the hour on the tough course.

The fastest Saints rider on the day was Martin Lines with one hour one minute 21 seconds in his best 25-mile ride this season.

Sevale’s Jez Pile clocked 1.02.52 and team-mate Mike Amery finished in 1.02.14 Saints’ Dave Walker did 1.03.18, Dave Evans 1.03.50 and Ed Dursley 1.04.47.

Twelve-hour champion Jeff Jones won the event, breaking his own record with a time of 53.34.

Previously, St John’s had two entries in the k10/10 at Bourton-on-Dunsmore, near Coventry.

Walker recorded 23.05 on the 10-mile circuit for 13th place out of 50 riders on a late summer afternoon.

Team-mate Terry Shough did 24.22, while Jon Simkins, of drag2zero, won the event in 20.27. Echelon-Rotor’s Simon Harradine was second in 20.48.

Shough and Walker competed in the Midland team time trial but Rob Nicholls and Rachel Vann had to withdraw.

A tough headwind up to the first turn hampered the 78 riders but Walker managed 22.50 on the 10-mile circuit and Shough clocked 23.30.

Sevale rider Pile was the star performer with 21.50 and Amery did well on a fixed wheel with 23.05. Simkins won again in 20.20.
