WORCESTER picked up nine wins at their successful small boats head meeting held on the river Severn.
City students from King’s School, the Royal Grammar School and the University of Worcester also impressed at the annual event.
Plenty of other clubs joined in the racing with Bewdley and Stourport heavily represented from Worcestershire alongside competitors from Hereford and Monmouth.
Among the Worcester victors in Division One were Ollie Edkins with Simon Barbor and Richard Lee with Sam Tustain in the elite and intermediate one doubles respectively.
The senior coxless four got the city rowers off to a fine start by crossing the finishing line first in only the second race.
The Worcester and Hereford girls’ composite junior 16A coxless quad won convincingly despite a last-minute substitution due to injury. In the end, Izzy Friedlander, Sian Thompson, Georgii Walklet and Hereford’s Charlotte Hodgkins-Byrne claimed the victory.
Jess Price, Esme Barrell, Harriet Walker and Alisha Page-Long also shone to take the junior 18A coxless quad.
In the women’s intermediate three fours, Sarah Reed, Frauke Jung, Vicki Huckle and Isabelle Whitehead won with the help of a cox from Derby who was recruited just minutes before the race.
In Division Two, Dan Jew, Justin Conner, Edkins and Barbor were successful in the men’s intermediate one fours.
The senior four of Shaun Fisher, Richard Solodducha, Lee and Chris Beech, coxed by Matt Moore, were also triumphant.
Ellie Cornelius took the girls’ junior 17A single sculls to complete a fine day for the hosts who hold their head of the river meeting on February 16 next year.
