Coley’s catch enough to win Cavalier Cup

CANAL star Paul Coley stunned the opposition in order to win the Cavalier Cup individual title.

With the match on Perdiswell, the Cavalier and Lansdowne Park sections, Coley was drawn on the former on end peg 70.

Offering caster bait to the far side on stout tackle produced a rare 8lbs carp early in the contest.

Added to three hefty chub and a few smaller samples, the Swan AC angler’s catch tipped the scales at a match-winning 18lbs 7oz 12dr.

Second was Chris Summers (Phoenix) who, from peg 41, offered worm bait across to the brambles to take an all-perch net of 5-13-4.

In-form Browning Spa matchman Gary Kirkham secured third with 4-2-13 from unfancied peg 63 with his perch and rudd weight falling to worm presented in the centre channel.

Top team on the day was the Greenman outfit of Rich Brewer, Colin Davis, Mick Samson and Bob Patrick with 16 points. Second were Muppets with 17 followed by Browning Spa on 18.

Sunday sees the first of the Worcester and District United Anglers’ Association’s individual winter league meetings.
