Davidge scoops trophy success

ONE of the major competitions in the Bransford club’s seniors calendar — the Cyril Lee Trophy — once again proved what a popular event it is by attracting a sizeable entry list of over 40.

Played in near perfect conditions it was the seniors captain, Mike Davidge, who sh-owed the way home.

Playing off a handicap of 16, he amassed a total of 42 points — two more than runner-up Robin Young who was playing off 21.

Both players duly saw their handicaps come down by another stroke.

Third spot went to John Phillips on 39, while other leading scores were Richard Walker 38, Jeff Thomas, Ray Loughrey, Paul Edlin, Tony Hardiman and Ferey Ghani all 37 and June Atkinson and Ken Jones both 36.

Meanwhile, Tony Robinson was in outstanding form in the seniors August medal and finished a comfortable five strokes ahead of his rivals in Division One.

He had a gross score of 84 for nett 69 with Richard Wal-ker (91-17-74) and Harry God-win (87-13-74) nearest rivals.

Other leading scores in Division One were: Trevor Atkinson (86-11-75), Dave Lumsden (91-14-77) and Jeff Thomas (89-12-77).

Leading the way in Division Two were Robin Walker (97-27-70) and Pauline Wetton (92-22-70). Other leading sc-ores were: Ray Loughrey (98-26-72), Robin Young (94-21-73), Brian Caulfield (93-20-73) and Alan Wallcroft (98-24-74).

Bransford held its annual golfer/non-golfer nine-hole fun competition which was won by the mother and daughter pairing of Sally and Catherine McPherson.
