ONE of the major events of the year for the Bransford seniors’ section is the club championship, which is played over two days.

On this occasion, it produced a fine win for Trevor Atkinson, who returned outstanding rounds of 83 and 90 to win by four shots from Tony Lee with an aggregate score of 173.

It was a much tighter battle for the Cyril Lee Trophy, a stableford competition, in which Roy Mayo managed to edge just a point ahead of a chasing pack of five golfers to take the title.

Mayo finished with an impressive 40-point haul with Martin Saunders, John Phillips, Richard Steele and Dave Lumsden all on 39.

The ladies’ club championship and handicap 36-hole competition, played over two days, at Bransford produced an impressive display from Lesley Lammas to take both titles.

She returned a two-round score of 168 to take the championship — a clear 22 strokes ahead of runner-up June Atkinson with Anne Hamilton third on 198.

Lammas’ winning total in the handicap trophy was 144, followed by the same players — Atkinson and Hamilton — on 154 and 158 respectively.

A busy competition schedule for Bransford seniors continued with the B&H Trophy — played in pairs stableford format — and Atkinson was again to the fore when he and playing partner Rob Musson claimed prevailed with a haul of 46 points.

They were just ahead of Ian Hamilton and Graham Wilks on 45, with Iain Elrick and Eddie McLaughlin on 44 and Tony Robinson and Mike Abbott, June Atkinson and Ivor Lloyd and Ken Jones and Clarice Knowles all on 43.
