GARY Whild has called on Kidderminster Harriers to build on Saturday’s win over Torquay.

The Aggborough outfit bounced back from last week’s early exit from the FA Cup thanks to goals for Marvin Johnson and Kevin Nicholson.

Victory also means ninth-placed Kidderminster are only four points off second in the Vanarama Conference, despite a series of inconsistent results.

The win was even more impressive as Harriers were without injured captain Josh Gowling (shoulder) and club skipper Kyle Storer, who is set for two or three weeks out because of a hernia.

The midfielder was expected to have an operation this week to correct the problem.

Michael Gash, who was the top scorer last season, was also left out of the squad completely.

But Harriers face a frustrating wait before a return to action, with their next game on Wednesday (7.45pm) at home to Aldershot.

The game has been pushed back one 24 hours because of the Shots’ FA Cup trip to Portsmouth on Sunday.

Their exit from the FA Cup also means the Reds are without a game this weekend, after an attempt to bring the home clash against Nuneaton on December 2 forward fell through.

“The club did everything it could to get a game on but unfortunately Nuneaton pulled out at the 13th hour,” said Harriers’ manager.

“Unfortunately, the Aldershot match is now a day later so we have to wait. Players don’t want to miss a game on Saturday so it’s a bit frustrating but we’ll have the lads in training this weekend.”

He added: “It was disappointing to go out of the FA Cup last week especially with the club’s finances at the moment.

“But we bounced back well and we’re still only four points off second place in the league.

“We picked a team and squad which we thought was capable of winning.”

Whild admits that he can only bring in new players by sending others on loan.

Striker Reece Styche made a fine start to his loan period at Tamworth, which ends on Friday, November 28, with a goal against Bradford Park Avenue.

That enabled Harriers to bolster their midfield with Luton loan man Matt Robinson, who debuted against the Gulls on Saturday.

“Reece put his hands up and said he needed some more games,” commented Whild.

“He’s made a great start and will come back to us fitter and sharper with more games under his belt,” said Kidderminster Harriers manager Gary Whild.

“It also allowed us to pull a rabbit out of the hat and bring in Matt Robinson, who did well on his debut.

“Because of where the club is, if we want to bring in players we have to shuffle things around to free up funds.”

Meanwhile, supporters can quiz Whild and his assistants Mark Creighton and Josh Gowling at a fans forum next Thursday (7.30pm).

Admission is £3, which includes a fish and chip meal. Tickets are available from the club shop.
