KIDDERMINSTER Harriers manager Gary Whild has confirmed that striker Michael Gash is on the verge of leaving the club.

The forward has not been involved in the last two games for the Aggborough outfit and is thought to be wanted by Vanarama Conference rivals Nuneaton.

Nuneaton manager Liam Daish, who was Gash’s boss at Ebbsfleet, was spotted at Harriers’ 2-0 defeat to Aldershot.

Whild admitted the cash-strapped club were trying to reduce their wage bill, which was thought to be in the region of £68,000 a month.

The club had already sent Jasbir Singh, Reece Styche and Josh O’Keefe to Gloucester, Tamworth and Chester on loan respectively.

Gash has scored 24 goals in all competitions for Kidderminster, including one in the memorable FA Cup win over Peterborough United.

He said: “The thing for me is that the lads who are here are getting paid. We can’t afford Michael Gash so we need to get him fixed up with a new club.

“That’s where we as a club and we’ve got to work with the players we’ve got.

“We were keen to have a fans forum so we can look from the football side tell the fans where we are.

“There is nobody more frustrated than myself and Mark Creighton, who gave his all for the club as a player.”

Meanwhile, Kidderminster were left to rue the 2-0 loss to Aldershot.

The game had been 0-0 but its complexion changed completely after Jared Hodgkiss was shown a straight red card for pulling back Andre McConville.

Brett Williams converted the penalty before Mark Molesley added a second.

“It was a sloppy start to the second half and to be fair to Jared Hodgkiss, he was the first to come in the office and apologise for letting the fans down,” said Whild.

“He switched off, he’s too wide and the lad got inside him and he’s put his hands up and said it was a penalty.

“Jared has been outstanding this season and it just shows the character of the lad to come in and apologise.

“You could not meet a more honest gut but the sending off was the game changer.”
