GARY Whild has vowed Kidderminster Harriers will take the FA Trophy seriously as they prepare for Saturday's testing trip to Bradford Park Avenue.

The Aggborough outfit are aiming to ignite a run in the competition which will blow away some of the dark clouds hovering over the cash-strapped club.

There's no doubt that a repeat of the 2006-07 season's appearance in the final generated a host of excitement for Reds supporters.

But standing in their way are their opponents from the Conference North, who were a thorn in Harriers' side over three games last season.

It took extra-time goals for Marvin Johnson and Amari Morgan-Smith to see off Bradford in an FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round replay but Park Avenue had their revenge with a 2-1 win in the Trophy several weeks later.

But after this season's early exit in the FA Cup against Eastleigh and the club's cashflow issues, Whild is keen on going all the way to Wembley.

He said: "The way the Trophy is now, some teams pushing for promotion will make a few changes but I can tell you we'll be taking it very seriously.

"With our squad the way it is we couldn't make any changes but there's no doubt we'd love to go very far in this competition and there is no bigger motivating factor than playing at Wembley.

"Like last season, Bradford are not doing that well in the league but we saw what a good side they can be, so we know we'll have to be at our best to beat them.

"When you play teams from a lower level you know you are in for a very tough game and we're going to be ready."

Harriers had a weekend off because of scheduled league opponents Aldershot's involvement in the FA Cup and it gave the small squad a chance to catch their breath ahead of the hectic Christmas break.

Reece Styche returns from a one-match ban but otherwise there are no injury worries for Harriers.

Whild also confirmed he is interested in signing 21-year-old Redditch United striker Jamie Spencer.

The club submitted a seven-day approach to their Worcestershire neighbours, although the manager has yet to speak to the former Birmingham City and Coventry youth hitman.
