FANS quizzed Harriers' board of directors over why former manager Steve Burr left the club — but there was little new light shed.

Chairman Ken Rae claimed a confidentiality clause prevented them from revealing details over his mysterious departure.

But they alleged the seeds for his exit were sown in October 2013 when he spoke to Forest Green Rovers about the taking the reins at the New Lawn.

Burr was given permission to speak with Rovers and told not to attend Harriers’ game at Barnet, with assistant Gary Whild taking charge.

To the relief of supporters, he returned to Harriers but departed eight weeks later and was replaced by Andy Thorn.

Supporters were enraged by Kidderminster’s failure to give a clear reason for Burr’s exit and last week’s fans' forum was their first chance to grill the directors during at times heated exchangesd.

Rae said: “I am not at liberty to go into the ins and outs of what happened, but the main reason the board decided to move on Steve was because he had lost the dressing room.

“Steve had applied and been interviewed for another job.

"Mark Serrell was chairman and he was approached by members of the senior squad to say they weren’t happy to play for Steve.”

Director John Davies said Burr did not initially want to talk to Rovers, who had made an official approach, and then claimed the manager's representative asked for the club’s consent to speak with their Conference rivals an hour later.

Rae said Burr agreed to come off a deal until 2016 to switch onto a shorter contract. Serrell also agreed a compensation package with Rovers.

Upon Burr’s return, Harriers won four out of six and reached the FA Cup third round but then lost four of the next five. His final game was an impressive 0-0 draw against League One outfit Peterborough in the FA Cup.

Behind the scenes there was disruption with Jed McCrory drafted in by Serrell to work with the management team to identify January transfer targets.

Whild commented Burr had found the club "different" on his return, while director Gino Ruffinato felt the Rovers affair created a rift between manager and the chairman.

But Burr hit back dismissed accusations, saying: “Ken Rae and Gino Ruffinato need to get their facts right.

"When I returned after the Barnet ban we went on a winning run. The players where 100 per cent behind me when I returned.

“Mark Serrell also gave me permission to speak with Forest Green Rovers. I said I did not want to speak to them.”
