GARY Whild has said Kidderminster Harriers' players won’t go on strike, despite the club’s money worries.

The Aggborough outfit’s cashflow concerns have came to the fore again after staff at the club were only paid a third of their wages for March this week.

Chairman Ken Rae has pledged to pay the money next Tuesday after Bank Holiday Monday’s Vanarama Conference home clash against Bristol Rovers (3pm ko), with the club braced for the biggest crowd of the season.

Board member John Davies spoke to the players on Wednesday morning to explain the situation and has set up a meeting between the squad benefactors Kath and Ernie Lane.

The Lanes had reiterated their commitment to financially back the club until the end of the season only a month ago, after a similar situation had arisen. The players have requested a meeting with the benefactors for this morning.

However, manager Whild ruled out possible strike action over pay.

The management and players had refused to talk to press after the Halifax game to highlight the club’s failure to fully pay wages at the end of February and are concerned it has happened again.

Whild said: “The money problems are not a new situation, they’re ones the lads have been dealing with all season.

“But they will do what they have done in every match, go out and do their best for the club in difficult circumstances.”

The latest revelation comes after Harriers’ 3-1 win over Braintree lightened the mood at the Reds and ended a nine-game run without a victory.

It brought much-needed cheer after captain Josh Gowling joined Kidderminster’s Conference rivals on loan until the end of the season.

The 31-year-old, who was also a first team coach, is a free agent in the summer and had been in talks about a new deal.

Gowling stated stated on Twitter he had no choice but to leave but Whild made it clear Harriers had worked hard to keep him.

He said: “We were aware that there was a situation but we did everything we could do to keep him.

“Josh wanted to explore other opportunities, that is his prerogative. He is club captain, one of my staff, so of course I am disappointed.”

Kidderminster brought in Birmingham City duo Nat Kelly and James Fry, who played against Braintree. Huddersfield youngster William Boyle has also came on board. The club have also signed Tipton Town striker Gurjit Singh on non-contract terms.

Whild also played down a move for Redditch United defender Clayton McDonald, who is staying at the Valley Stadium.

Harries take on bottom side Telford on Saturday (3pm ko), a side who need three points to keep their survival hopes alive.
