COACH Kevin Phillips described the size of Harriers' task to escape relegation from the Vanarama National League as massive after a third straight win yesterday.

Kidderminster blitzed Macclesfield 3-1 to make it nine points in eight days and cut the gap to safety to just seven.

It means their fortunes have changed during a dramatic week but Phillips concedes that despite improving their chances of survival they still face a huge task.

Goals for Arthur Gnahoua, Keith Lowe and Harry White saw the Reds power into a 3-0.

Macclesfield hit back in the second half but despite plenty of possession, they could only manage Kristian Dennis's 90th minute free-kick.

"We were delighted with the start we had and the first half as a whole," said Phillips.

"I wasn't disappointed by the second half by any stretch, it was a more professional performance, but we would have like to be more in the front foot.

"When we took over it was a mammoth task, now it is probably a massive task.

"We worked particularly hard in the defensive area in the second half.

"We may have been a little bit deep at times and it appeared a little bit last-ditch but in terms of shape we were very pleased."

The win was a boost after the blow of losing Elton Ngwatala for six weeks because of a cartilage problem in his knee.

Tyrone Williams produced a solid display deputising in midfield, while Ousmane Fane and Luke Maxwell starred in the centre of the park.

Phillips added: "Elton has been a great find and done very well for us.

"But we have a bit of strength in depth and I would like to congratulate Tyrone Williams on his first start.

"I thought Luke Maxwell, Ousmane Fane and Tyrone were excellent today.

"They are all very young boys stepped up and they should be very proud."

Harriers go to leaders Cheltenham on Tuesday night (7.45pm ko).
