CHAIRMAN Colin Gordon revealed Harriers were "doing our best" to retain the services of midfield marvel Elton Ngwatala.

The Aggborough chief had previously resigned himself to losing the out-of-contract 24-year-old to a League One or League Two club over the summer.

But Kidderminster fans were given hope when Ngwatala featured in Tuesday's Worcestershire Senior Cup final defeat at Evesham United having trained with the club for the past week.

"We are giving him the chance to come in and get himself back to fitness," said Gordon. "We would be delighted if he decided to stay with us, he has a lot of people that quite like him but we're doing our best.

"We will just have to see how we go. He has a high regard for the club and has kept in touch with us all. He has a great relationship with the manager and is an exceptional talent."

Meanwhile, Gordon insisted greater resources had been made available this season as Harriers attempt to go one better than a second-placed finish and play-off defeat in National North.

Gordon acknowledged the departures of Arthur Gnahoua to Shrewsbury and Jordan Tunnicliffe and Zaine Francis-Angol to AFC Fylde had been unwanted but that manager John Eustace has funds to bolster his ranks.

"We know what we're trying to achieve and I back the group of people we have to do their jobs," said Gordon.

"There is no limitation on the budget. The fact of the matter is we have lost players, the majority of whom we wanted to go.

"We didn't win anything last season. The ones we wanted to keep (Gnahoua, Tunnicliffe and Francis-Angol), unfortunately we couldn't.

"The budget is there for us to spend. We have brought in Liam Daly and Lee Vaughan and the budget will be increased on last season.

"We want winners at the club and want to improve the squad. There are more funds available and we have a lot going on take make even more things happen.

"We are working particularly hard to get the right calibre of player in. That means strength of character, it is not all about budgets but we will spend a lot more than we did last season.

"There are a million players available but you have to get the right type. We will do what we have to do to make this team succeed."
