Harriers out of tournament

KIDDERMINSTER Harriers are back to the Midlands this week despite a 3-1 win in the Errea South West Challenge Cup over Barnstable.

It was a fairly comfortable win for Harriers against their co-hosts but with Chertsey ending the group stage on four points and Yeovil on six, Mark Yates’ men were left to concentrate on their pre-season preparation closer to home.

Martin Brittian put Harriers ahead when he tucked a fine free-kick into the top corner of the net on 17 minutes.

Michael Bowler went close a number of times as he looked to double his pre-season tally of goals.

And Mark Creighton also made it his mission to take the game by the scruff of the neck as he twice went close just before the break, with a header that was put behind for a corner and a looping effort that was clawed off the line.

Just after Marco Addagio fired a header over, Barnstable levelled matters with Lee Francis beating fit-again keepre Adam Bartlett with a well-taken volley.

But just after the re-start, trialist Addagio got on the end of Brittain’s low right-wing cross to make it 2-1.

The second half started fairly quietly but David McDermott and Justin Richards both went close for Harriers.

It was left to Matthew Barnes-Homer to seal the win 20 minutes from time when he finished off a cross from Darryl Knights.

Harriers’ next friendly game is tomorrow night at Stafford Rangers.

Starting line-up: Bartlett, Ferrell, Riley, Creighton, Bowler, McGrath, Foley, McDermott, Brittain, Barnes-Homer, Addagio.

Subs used: Knights, Richards, Bignot, Smikle, Jones, Russell, Bennett.
