Harriers burst into life when Luke Medley shot wide after good work by David Hankin in the 21st minute.
Marc Williams also saw a long range effort fly over the bar.
Harriers almost grabbed a second on the half hour mark. Hankin fed Vaughan down the right and he drove in a powerful cross which keeper Dan Haystead could only parry.
With James Vincent looking to get on the ball, Rob Oddy cleared the danger for the hosts.
