AN ENGINEERING firm is supporting a charity walk by football fans to raise money for cancer victims.

Kidderminster Harriers Independent Supporters Trust’s (KHIST) walk next week has been organised in memory of former chair - man and trust stalwart, Steve Millington, who died of cancer last November.

Harriers fan Rob Glassey, who has worked at Kidderminster-based Beakbane for 16 years, applied to the Beakbane Employee Trust, which holds a 55 per cent stake in the business on behalf of its employees, for support.

The trust has donated £500 to sponsor the shirts the walkers will wear on the second day of their walk.

Beakbane’s name will adorn the shirts and the sponsorship cheque will be handed over at half-time at Harriers’ Saturday home game against Grimsby.

KHIST aims to raise about £20,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, a suggestion made by Mr Millington before his death, by walking 65 miles in two days from the Aggborough Stadium to For - est Green Rovers’ ground in Nailsworth.

The 52 walkers plan to arrive tomorrow in time for a 7.45pm kick-off between the two sides.

Karl Davies, of KHIST, said: “We are delighted with the support we have received from Beakbane."

Mike Southwell, managing director of Beakbane, added: “This is a very worthwhile cause, with a strong local link.”
