CAPTAIN fantastic Kyle Storer bagged a dramatic late winner in Essex for Harriers and then vowed to keep on the goal-trail.

Storer broke the deadlock in the 89th minute with a powerful header to ensure the Aggborough side bounced back from their midweek loss to Alfreton and made it two wins in three matches.

The 26-year-old, who retained the skipper’s armband for a second season, admitted he’s been given licence by manager Steve Burr to push forward and bag more goals from midfield.

“It was a big three points after losing to Alfreton,” said Storer.

“It was a bit more even in the second-half and Braintree had their chances but I thought we soaked it up quite well and stayed organised.”

Harriers had had the better of the opening 45 minutes but for all their control, they found a well-drilled Iron difficult to break down.

Michael Gash hit the bar with a header and Chey Dunkley nodded an effort wide near the end of the first half.

Braintree were lucky to keep 11 men on the pitch when Dean Wells was only shown a yellow card for cynically hauling down Anthony Malbon.

The hosts came back into the game but could not breach Harriers’ solid defence, which was expertly marshalled by Josh Gowling.

However, the difference came in the dying minutes.

Substitutes Jack Byrne and Joe Lolley, who made his Skrill Premier debut for Harriers, added extra urgency to the visitors and the former produced the delivery of the match which Storer put away impressively.

“I gambled really,” the skipper said. “If we didn’t have a player like Lee Fowler who anchors midfield I probably wouldn’t have.

“In the last couple of seasons I’ve done that role and not taken a chance but the gaffer is always on at me about scoring goals.”
