KIDDERMINSTER Harriers manager Gary Whild believes former boss Steve Burr will get a warm welcome on his return to Aggborough on Bank Holiday Monday.

Burr will be back at the club where he spent four years when he brings his Chester side for the Vanarama Conference match (3pm).

The 54-year-old took over at Harriers in January 2010 and brought Whild, then in charge at Redditch, in as his assistant.

Under their guidance, Harriers were continually in the hunt for play-off places and lost in the semi-final to Wrexham at the end of the 2012-13 campaign.

But Burr was sacked in January this year just weeks after being granted permission to talk to Forest Green Rovers about their managerial vacancy.

It led to a turbulent time at the club, with successor Andy Thorn lasting barely two months before being shown the exit and Whild taking over.

However, despite this unsavoury episode in Harriers’ history, Whild reckons there is no reason for Burr to get a hostile reception from the fans.

He said: “Steve and I have been fortunate to work together and enjoy some really good times at Harriers and I am sure he will get a warm welcome from the fans.

“We always had a really good working relationship and we still keep in touch.

“It’s great to see him managing at this level again even if it’s not by the most traditional route.”

Burr was appointed Chester manager just a fortnight after leaving his job at Kidderminster but was unable to steer them clear of relegation.

However, the Deva Stadium outfit were reinstated to non-league’s top-flight in the wake of Hereford United’s expulsion from the competition during the summer.

Meanwhile, Kidderminster Harriers’ Independent Supporters’ Trust (KHIST) are due to hold their annual general meeting on Saturday, September 6.

It will be staged in the Harriers’ social and supporters’ club at Aggborough (5pm).
