HEREFORD United will be hoping on-loan defender Delroy Gordon will bring much-needed defensive stability to the team.

The struggling Bulls have conceded 15 goals in seven games so far this season, including five against Burnham at Edgar Street last Saturday.

It led manager Jon Taylor to lament the lack of leaders in the team, which has managed just one win in the Southern League Premier Division.

But, in a week that saw captain Luis Morrison-Derbyshire leave the club by mutual consent, Taylor has drafted in centre-half Gordon for a month from Conference side Nuneaton Town ready for today’s trip to Histon (3pm).

The 30-year-old will be looking to bring his experience to a predominantly youthful Hereford side, who also came in for criticism from keeper Luke Williams in the aftermath of last weekend’s defeat.

Williams, a former Aldershot Town player, pulled no punches in saying: “Defensively we need to be a lot more aggressive. We conceded five poor – very poor – goals but we have to bounce back.

“We have created a lot of chances but we need to be more clinical at the offensive end as well.

“We had good passages – on the ball we are a tremendous side but off the ball we need to be more mature and know what we need to do.

“We need to be a lot more sound defensively and go on from there.”

Meanwhile, Hereford’s Royal National College for the Blind have moved to quash rumours that there is money outstanding for player accommodation.

A statement said: “To address rumours that HUFC has reneged on payments for the players’ stay at the Royal National College for the Blind’s Gardner Hall accommodation.

“It is the business and commercial manager’s wish to state that all monies due are paid and up to date.”

Hereford face another winding-up order on Monday from HM Revenues and Customs, the previous management team of Martin Foyle and Andy Porter and several other unnamed creditors.
