KIDDERMINSTER Harriers are hoping for a bumper crowd of 4,000 for today’s top-of-the-table Vanarama Conference clash against Gateshead (3pm).

The Aggborough outfit have cut their prices for Non-League Day, which aims to attract fans of bigger clubs without a fixture due to the international break.

With no games in the Premiership or Championship, Harriers are hoping to entice supporters from Aston Villa, Birmingham City, Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Bromwich Albion.

The club have joined forces with Kidderminster Harriers Independent Supporters Trust (KHIST) in a bid to swell the gate for the eagerly-anticipated encounter.

KHIST spokesman Karl Davies said: “This is a great opportunity for fans who have never experienced non-league football before to see what it’s all about.

“Harriers have a top-of-the-table clash against Gateshead and it’s going to be a showcase for the club.

“Watching football at Harriers is completely different and I think supporters of Aston Villa, West Bromwich Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers will be pleasantly surprised.

“Even better, fans can stand in sections of Aggborough which is definitely something some supporters of top-flight clubs have not had the pleasure of doing before.

“We’d love it if there was a gate of 4,000 to cheer Harriers on.”

With the club having made a plea for fresh investors to back the club, they are hoping to put themselves in the shop window. Harriers cited their current financial worries following the departure of directors Mark Serrell and wife Ruth and Ernie and Kath Lane.

The club are in the process of taking legal action against the Lanes, who quit the board in June, over a financial dispute.

Finance director Joe Hancox also left the club on Tuesday.

Davies added: “That’s why Non-League Day is so important, it’s a chance for the club to showcase itself to a whole new group of people.”
