WORCESTER Ladies Rugby Club's World Cup stars will be showing off their skills tonight – and the prestigious trophy - on a ground-breaking evening at Sixways.

Skipper Ceri Large and her Worcester team-mates are in action on the first-team pitch against Lichfield after Warriors’ Championship clash with Moseley.

It is Worcester Ladies’ maiden league appearance at Sixways and fly-half Large is hoping her side will be backed by a vocal crowd in the match, which kicks off at about 5.15pm.

Large was part of England’s historic World Cup triumph last month which also included Worcester team-mates Kat Merchant, Rochelle Clark, Laura Keates,  Lydia Thompson and Heather Fisher, who is Thurrock.

And the World Cup trophy will be on display at Sixways.

Large said: “We’ve had a fantastic few weeks and there are still moments when I can’t believe I helped England to win the World Cup.

“We met the Prime Minster, David Cameron, this week at Downing Street and he knew quite a few things about rugby,” she said.

“It will be a fantastic experience to play at Sixways because it is such a great stadium and an excellent surface as we discovered when we did a lap of honour at a match a few weeks ago.”

She added: “Lichfield is always a close game and we have drawn against them quite a few times so it should be exciting for the crowd.”

Large lives in Cinderford and works as a community coach for the RFU based in Swindon.

She said: “The RFU has got a target to get 100,000 more girls playing rugby and women’s rugby is getting a much bigger profile – it’s an exciting time for everyone in the sport.

“We have had a push on Facebook and Twitter to promote our match against Lichfield and, hopefully, we will get a good crowd and people will enjoy seeing the World Cup trophy.”
