LEFT-back Kevin Nicholson has called on Kidderminster Harriers to be more clinical in front of goal.

Gary Whild’s side have scored just 13 goals in 11 games, with four of them coming against Altrincham earlier this month.

They have also failed to hit the target in five games this season, including in last Saturday’s 1-0 home defeat to Grimsby Town, a match seen by many supporters as Kidderminster’s best display of the campaign.

Nicholson, who joined the club on non-contract terms during the summer, admits it is frustrating and wants his team-mates to get back on the goals trail at Woking today (3pm).

He said: “Overall, there’s no real criticism you can throw at the Harriers’ lads.

“Apart from a very little defensive lapse when their guy made a good turn on the edge of the box and put it in the bottom corner,” said Nicholson.

“But we’ve got to be more clinical. It’s not the first time this season. I’m not talking about just the forwards, I’m talking about everyone. We’ve had too many games where we haven’t scored.

“The reason I came here is to try to get promoted — if you’re going to achieve that you’ve got to be clinical.

“You’ve got to take your opportunities, especially in a game where you have as many chances as that.”

The former Torquay United defender, 33, also reckons Harriers’ failure to take their chances in matches gives the opponents a psychological edge.

“I think if you’re in the Grimsby dressing room you say you’ve dug in, got a clean sheet and were clinical when you got your one chance,” said Nicholson.

“I’m sure without really thinking about it, your subconscious does play tricks on you, which applies to both teams.”

He added: “For Grimsby, the longer the situation goes on, the more they start thinking, ‘we’re going to nick this.’ “For us, the longer it goes on, the more we’re thinking, ‘come on, put it in the goal.’”
