TWO goals by striker Ashley Edenborough ensured Evesham United a safe passage into the third qualifying round of the FA Cup courtesy of a convincing 3-1 victory over higher-graded Histon at the Jubilee Stadium.

United's reward is a home tie with Southern League Central side Chalfont St Peter on Saturday, October 11.

After holding the Stutes to a goalless draw in Cambridgeshire four days earlier, Evesham made no mistake in last night's replay to book their place in the next round.

United were forced to make one change to their starting line-up with Will Wellon coming in for skipper Matt Sysum, who was serving a one-match ban for five cautions this season.

Edenborough struck in the ninth minute to give Paul Collicutt's side a dream start.

Histon keeper Enol Ordonez got in a good block to deny Lance Smith only for the ball to sit up for Edenborough to head home off the underside of the bar.

Histon could not cope with the pace of George Washbourne and Elliot Kennedy down the flanks and both in quick succession went close to adding to the Robins lead.

The dangerous Kennedy did get on the scoresheet soon after half-time when he cut in from the right and had his shot deflected into the far corner beyond the helpless Ordonez for 2-0.

More good work by Kennedy ended with Washbourne lifting his shot over and then substitute Nathan Jackson fired over from distance after combining well with Washbourne.

Histon then enjoyed their best spell and through Nick Freeman pulled a goal back with 14 minutes to go.

Any hopes Histon had, however, of salvaging something from the game disappeared six minutes from time when Edenborough was tripped in the box by Duran Reynolds and got up to easily beat Ordonez from 12 yards.

The last action saw United keeper Kevin Sawyer superbly touch over Eugene Libertucci's drive before Evesham comfortably saw out time for another impressive performance following the previous round's victory at neighbours Redditch United.
