THE Gentlemen of Worcestershire finished their season with a 50-run defeat to the Cross Arrows at Lord’s.

The Arrows, who play a series of annual cricket fixtures on the Nursery Ground in September, batted first and posted 287-9 in 45 overs.

Their final pair Courtney and Kitzinger added a crucial 51 runs for the last wicket in the final seven overs.

Gents and Ombersley skipper Arti Fiaz took 5-21 in seven overs.

Durrand (56) and Barrett (79) led the London side to 196-3 before Fiaz induced a late-order collapse.

Pershore’s Lee Wilks claimed 1-43 from seven overs and wicketkeeper Ollie Steele took two catches and two stumpings.

Two Worcester Nomads players led a late-order fightback after Gents stumbled in their reply.

Veterans Nick Williams (31) and Anton Madzarevic (13 not out) gave Arrows a fright with a last-wicket partnership of 50.

But their effort was in vain as Gents were bowled out for 237 in the 42nd over.

They had got off to a poor start until two Ombersley players injected much-needed pace into the innings.

Liam Gwynne (50) and talented young all-rounder Tom Wilde (33) kept their faint hopes alive but the game was always Arrows’ to lose.
