FANS have leapt to the defence of the famous cottage pies served at Kidderminster Harriers after they were once again named as the most expensive in football.

The home-made meat and potato dish, which costs £4.50, topped the charts in the BBC’s Price of Football survey.

It is more expensive than the rest of the Vanarama Conference clubs, the whole of the Football League and the Premier League.

But both Harriers supporters, and those from visiting teams, rave about the pies, which are made prior to matches by catering manager Brian Murdoch’s staff and weigh in at 700g.

Worcester City, who are tenants at Aggborough, also have access to the pies at their home matches.

Jim Kenyon, a Hereford United fan who was at Aggborough for Harriers’ Vanarama Conference match against Welling, said: “I had one last Wednesday when I visited, it was the best pie I’ve had in a long time.”

Fellow fan Joel Stern added: “For those with no Football Conference experience, I can assure you that £4.50 for a pie is worth every penny!”

Karl Hensman said: “Kidderminster may have the most expensive pie in English football, but it’s £4.50 of heaven.

“If you haven’t tried Aggborough’s food, do it.”

The overall match-day cost for a Harriers supporter, which combines the price of the cheapest ticket, programme, pie and cup of tea was £23.

“We don’t set the price of the pies but they are a meal in themselves and are one of the best in the league,” said chairman Ken Rae.

“The cheapest match day experience is £23 if you buy a ticket for the terracing in the north and south stands, so I do think that coming to watch Kidderminster Harriers is good value for money.

“I do think we play entertaining football and while there have been some poor games the supporters have also gotten to see some exciting matches this season.”

Harriers travel to Halifax in the league today (3pm).
