IT was a case of after the Lord Mayor's show for a tired-looking Evesham United side with a 3-0 midweek defeat at Mangotsfield United.

The Robins surrendered their unbeaten Southern League Division One South and West away record at lowly Mangotsfield United.

Over the years, Cossham Street has not been a happy hunting ground for Evesham and so it proved again on Tuesday night.

Apart from an opening 10-minute burst, United were second-best and looked leg-weary after their gruelling 2-1 FA Cup fourth qualifying round defeat at home to Conference South Bromley at the weekend.

The same starting line-up for the Robins included former Mangotsfield players, skipper Matt Sysum and keeper Kevin Sawyer.

United's best spell was at the start when Carl Brown fired several efforts wide.

Then Mangos' keeper Joe Perry was at full stretch to deny Brown another goal-scoring opportunity.

But that was it as far as Evesham were concerned as the hosts dominated the rest of the encounter.

Lewis Hogg got the ball rolling on 13 minutes when the experienced midfielder slotted Mangotsfield ahead from Steve Davies' right-wing cross.

After a period of pressure, Gary Colborne gave Sawyer no chance with a bullet header on 34 minutes to double Mangotsfield's advantage.

On the hour mark, Lewis Powell let fly from outside the box to make it 3-0 and effectively end the game as a contest.

United substitute Harry Williams forced Perry to save at the other end.

But the final whistle could not come quickly enough for Paul Collicutt's side.

They will look to bounce back at home to Premier Division strugglers Banbury United in the FA Trophy first qualifying round on Saturday (3pm).

Fifteenth-placed Evesham visit title-chasing Merthyr Town in the league on Tuesday should they not require a Trophy replay (7.45pm).

Before Mangotsfield, the Robins had won two and drawn three of their first five league away games.
