WORCESTER Swimming Club ace Rebecca Redfern scooped four gold medals at the Great Britain Disability Championships in Manchester.

The visually-impaired competitor won the girls’ 14 to 16 years S13 classification for 50-metre and 100m freestyle, 100m breaststroke and 200m individual medley.

Redfern also swam the freestyle leg of the 4x100m medley relay, winning bronze for the West Midlands team.

It was the 14-year-old’s second major event as a disability swimmer after dominating her classification in Rugby at the West Midlands Disability Championships in September.

She swam with world-renowned stars such as Paralympic champions Ellie Simmonds and Sascha Kindred.

Redfern has been a competitive swimmer for five years and moved from Droitwich Dolphins to Worcester in the last year.

She has recently got involved with disability swimming and is on the England Talent Pathway with a view to moving to the GB World Class Potential Programme in 2015.

Within the S13 classification, Redfern is among the top-ranked GB swimmers and is top seed for the 100m breaststroke.

She will be swimming at international meets next year and hopes to qualify for the World Championships in July alongside long-term aspirations for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

Worcester club head coach Mark Stowe said: “I’m delighted for Rebecca. She has a fabulous work ethic and fully deserves this success.

“However, it’s only the start of her journey and I’m sure even better performances lie ahead.”
