WORCESTERSHIRE clubs enjoyed success at the Gloucestershire Open Championships.

Worcester won a gold medal and three bronzes, while Kidderminster’s Samurai claimed four golds, two silvers and three bronzes.

Samurai’s Leah Grosvenor sent her opponents flying in bagging gold with a maximum-point win in the final.

Sian Bobrowska took the bronze play-off for Worcester in the next weight up after being edged out in her semi.

Samurai’s in-form Bryony Griffiths secured a groundhold for maximum points in her final and another gold.

Two weight groups above Griffiths, Samurai fielded Becky Hobby, Hetty Tinsdale, Sophie Pollitt and Olivia Turner.

Hobby beat Pollitt in the quarter-finals, while Tinsdale defeated Turner.

The semis saw Hobby win against Tinsdale, who came back well to take bronze.

In the final against an England player, Hobby won in just eight seconds for gold.

The heaviest category featured Samurai’s Charlotte Read and Paige Wilkes.

Read took a blow to the head and had to withdraw but won enough matches to be in bronze medal position.

Wilkes reached the final and totally dominated the contest to bag gold.

For the boys, Samurai’s James Hemer faced Worcester’s Elliot Beard in the semi-finals.

British champion Hemer went on to the final but had to settle for silver, while Beard hit back for bronze.

Worcester’s Jack Walker, a British young junior silver medallist, held a Stroud player for maximum points in his final to take the gold.

Loic Keasey, also from Worcester, finished seventh.

For the older boys, Samurai’s Nathan Gallacher managed silver in his final with Worcester’s Joel Beard collecting bronze.

Samurai’s Matt Hemer was beaten in the semis but fought back for bronze.
