WESTFIELDS had to settle for a 1-1 draw in their Midland League Premier Division derby at Stourport Swifts after missing a host of chances to secure victory.

A sizeable crowd at Walshes Meadow watched the contest, which also saw the visitors finish with 10 men after Joel Edwards was sent off.

Westfields were unlucky not to take an early lead when Matt Reeve sent a shot crashing against the post be - fore Jamie Cuss headed wide.

Westfields continued to dominate the early stages and Tom Boyle sent a rising shot over the bar from the edge of the penalty area.

The visitors’ best chance came just before the break when Edwards found himself in front of goal but saw his header go wide.

When Stourport hit back they found keeper Matt Gwynne in fine form and, just before half-time, Cuss had a good chance to break the deadlock but he fluffed his lines from close range.

After a goalless first-half, Gwynne produced a save to prevent Stourport taking the lead before Westfields edged ahead in the 55th minute.

Reeve was brought down in full flight and Craig Jones put Westfields in front from the penalty spot.

The visitors had appeals for another penalty turned down when Cuss was sent sprawl - ing but referee Gary Walker dismissed the appeals.

Cuss should have made it 2-0 but he fired wide. Mike Tambling and Marcus Palmer then had shots cleared by the Stourport defence.

Gwynne produced a fine save to keep his side’s lead in - tact but Stourport drew level with a near-post effort in the 75th minute.
