EVESHAM hit five second-half goals to ease past bottom-of-the-table Bishops Cleeve in the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West.

Adam Mann and Ashley Edenborough both bagged braces for Evesham, while Nick Stanley also hit the target for the rampant Robins.

It was United’s third league double and remarkably the fifth time this season that Paul Collicutt’s side had netted five goals in a league game without reply.

The Robins have now won eight matches on the trot and climbed to fifth.

Volunteers and players helped to clear surface water off the Jubilee Stadium pitch and their hard work was rewarded as the Robins extended their unbeaten run to nine games.

Evesham were unchanged from the side which beat neighbours Stratford Town on Boxing Day, while the Mitres included five former United players in their starting line-up.

For the majority of the opening period, Evesham were camped inside the Cleeve half but unable to find the back of the net despite creating a host of gilt-edged chances.

The best opportunity in the first-half fell to Carl Brown but the midfielder arrived at the back post to nod Mann’s cross wide of the target from point-blank range.

Earlier, Stanley, Lance Smith and Mann had all gone within a whisker of giving Evesham the lead.

Evesham’s luck changed at the beginning of the second-half, Stanley picked up the ball 20 yards out and curled a shot into the bottom corner to make the breakthrough.

Cleeve keeper Steve Benbow made saves to deny Mann and then an effort from the impressive Stanley before Evesham hit three quick goals.

Mann fired a low drive past Benbow in the 72nd minute and, moments later, he raced through unchallenged to slot in United’s third goal.

Evesham added a fourth goal when Sean Wood’s cross was headed home by substitute Edenborough.

Cleeve’s back-line looked dispirited and they conceded a fifth goal three minutes from time when Edenborough got on the scoresheet again with a back-heel after Marcus Jackson’s powerful run.

Evesham: Sawyer, Wood, Wellon, Harding, Sysum, Dovey, Brown (Jackson 72), Stanley, Smith (Edenborough 74), Mann, Washbourne (Binns 65). Subs: Wilson, Knowles.

Attendance: 324.
