MANAGER Gary Whild wants to sign a proven goalscorer to boost Kidderminster Harriers’ Conference play-off bid.

Sixth-placed Harriers’ credentials are on the line at Aggborough tomorrow when they take on Macclesfield, who sit third, in a crucial clash (3pm).

Despite his side only being one point outside the top five, Whild is keen to bring in support for Jamie Spencer, Akwasi Asante and Craig Reid.

Harriers have not scored in their last two home games, against Altrincham and Southport, and have seen striker Reece Hales join Stourbridge on loan for the rest of the season.

Reece Styche has gone to Tamworth in a similar deal, while Michael Gash left earlier this month and signed for Barnet.

With money for the transfers of Nathan Blissett and Chey Dunkley now through, Whild has room for manoeuvre in his budget.

He said: “With the position the teams are in, this is a huge game. Macclesfield have done very well and they are a little bit like us.

“It’s an important game and I am looking for one of my strikers to stand up and take responsibility.

“If you look at the Southport and Altrincham matches, we had plenty of chances and their ‘keepers were men of the match.

“We’re used to scoring goals but we want to see if we can bring in someone who can do it regularly. We’ve got 17 games to go and I don’t want to look back at the transfer window with any regrets.”

Harriers have defender Jordan Tunnicliffe and Spencer available after both were cup-tied for last weekend’s FA Trophy defeat to Altrincham.

Forward Marvin Johnson has recovered from a hip problem but defender and player-coach Josh Gowling is still ruled out with a knee injury.
