WORCESTER’S Ollie Farr finished joint 57th after making a halfway cut for the first time in his debut European Tour campaign.

The 26-year-old, representing Wales, shot 72 and 70 in his final two rounds at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.

Farr finished on a four-under-par total of 284 after an impressive second round of 69 followed his 73 in the first.

The son of Worcester Golf and Country Club professional Graham Farr had missed the cut at the South African Open Championship in Johannesburg prior to heading to the UAE.

Martin Kaymer snatched defeat from the jaws of victory to hand world number 357 Gary Stal the title.

Kaymer carried a six-shot lead into the final round and extended his advantage to eight after his first four holes, but it went downhill fast for the three-time winner soon after.

Reigning US Open champion Kaymer eventually finished third behind maiden title winner Stal and runner-up Rory McIlroy with the German’s three-over-par 75 the joint worst of the day with Andy Sullivan.
