WORCESTER City amateur fighters came away with a 100 per cent record from three contests at a public show in Birmingham.

All three faced local boxers from host club Aston in what turned out to be evenly-matched bouts.

Junior Owen Cooper got Worcester off to a good start with a confident display of boxing skills to defeat the unbeaten Ellis Adcock.

Cooper kept to his jab during an even first round with Adcock trying to force the pace with both hands.

As soon as the visiting boxer brought his right hand to the table, there was only going to be one winner.

His fast right and left hook beat the Aston boy to the punch throughout the remaining two rounds.

Cooper was declared the winner by way of a split decision.

Powerful welterweight Grant Attwood kept the Worcester team on the winning track with a comprehensive points win over the taller George Taylor.

Encouraged by local support, Taylor tried in vain to stay away from the pursuing Attwood, who never gave him a moment’s rest.

Apart from hard right hands to the head, Attwood punished Taylor with plenty of hurtful body punches.

The Aston boxer took everything sent his way but, as the bout wore on, the pressure began to tell.

Taylor fought bravely to see the final bell when Attwood was declared a clear winner on a unanimous decision.

Lightweight Amin Khan got his career back to winning ways by outpointing tough Amir Hamza.

The sharp punches from Khan did nothing to halt the advancing Hamza. The Aston boxer neglected his defence and was prepared to take punishment to get some of his swinging punches home.

A crowd-pleasing bout saw both competitors give their all.

But the neater boxing skills from Khan did enough to impress the judges, who awarded him the bout by a split decision.

At the end, Aston coach John Homer praised Worcester’s boxers and congratulated head coach Mick Underwood on the sportsmanship and performances of his fighters.
