HINDLIP jockey Tom Weston is reported to be in good spirits as he recovers from two punctured lungs sustained in a fall at the Cheltenham Festival last Thursday.

The amateur rider came to grief aboard Benbane Head at the fourth-last fence in the Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup.

He was initially treated on the course before being airlifted to Southmead Hospital, Bristol, where his injuries were assessed and his lung problem confirmed.

Martin Keighley, trainer of Benbane Head, said: "I spoke to his wife on Saturday. He's doing really well and having a laugh and joke now.

"His lungs are improving and his head injuries are fine so he's definitely going the right way.

"Hopefully, he'll be coming out of intensive care any time now. He had two pipes into his lungs and they are taking them both off and are keeping an eye on him to make sure they are functioning by themselves."
