WORCESTER Swimming Club celebrated their 2015 presentation evening at the University of Worcester Arena with guests Vivienne Hewitt of the Worcestershire County Swimming Association, Worcester MP Robin Walker and Sally Hunt the club president.

WSC chairman, Simon Richards said: “This is an annual event that showcases the family that is Worcester Swimming Club and acknowledges the achievements of both the swimmers and tireless volunteers.”

There were nearly 300 people at the presentation night which celebrated successes in last year’s club championships and presentation of certificates to individuals that broke club records.

A total of 10 swimmers broke, between them, 42 records ranging from the girls nine-year-old category all the way up to the coveted open category for males and females.

In the seven years age group the Beech Cup was won by Amelia Wise and the Birch Cup by Oliver Dieppe; the eight years winners were, Fir Cup to Maisie Lyons and Oak Cup to Michael Agoston.

The Elm Cup was awarded to Aimee Monks and the Ash Cup to Jack Sweeny in the nine years and for the 10 years the Derwent Cup went to Rebecca Yates and the Langdale Cup to Daniel Day.

Imogen Rhodes was the winner of the Stour Cup and Matthew Richards the Wye Cup in the 11 year age group, while the Avon Trophy was won by Olivia Fletcher and Aaron Cook won the Teme Trophy in the 12 years age category.

Ellie McGinnes won the Severn Cup and Sam Clayton the Thames Cup in the 13 years age group and the 14 years age group awards were the Walter Dobbins Cup to Emily Stancer and the Joan Dobbins Cup to Robert Latta.

Lucy Clayton, was presented with the Midshires Cup and Ben Holmes the Purac Cup in the 15 years age section, while Samantha Gearey won the Percy Wild Cup and James Marsh was presented with the Louise Cowley Cup in the 16 years and over category.

The Paul Hundley Plate was presented to Aaron Cook and the Mary Allies Trophy to Alex Hughes.

These trophies were awarded to the junior and senior swimmers who have demonstrated the greatest commitment and improvement over the previous twelve months.

The Kevin Glanville award is for the young (18/u) volunteer who in the view of the coaching team has made the biggest contribution to the club through their teaching, coaching and development of the younger swimmers was won by Justine Hughes.

Presentations for club records were given to Aimee Monks, Olivia Fletcher, Matthew Richards, Jennifer Gearey, James Marsh, Michael Adair, Alice O’Toole, Anthony Redfern, Robin Williams and Tabitha Monkhouse.

The club captains, on behalf of all of the swimmers, presented their award to Malcolm Latta, and ex-Australian swimming champion who has been a volunteer coach at the club for nearly twenty years.

The President’s Cup was awarded to Aimee Monks having broken an existing club record by the biggest margin.
